How does soflam work in battlefield 3

And its way too obvious if you put it up high enough to spot a lot of things. That way you can have people javelin them through walls and behind cover. If the tank has Stealth, or 3 stealths then good luck getting a lock. And occasionally check it. Your wasting your time if you expect to take our Helis and Jets with it. Its hard enough to get a Air kill with a stinger missile because of flares.

Wuddel : I think that two players with that much coordination would be wasting their time; this looks to be more effective in my mind:. Well that explains the strange red lights I see sometimes that dont seem to be lasers Laser designators that give off obvious glow. Motion sensors and radar that make obvious sounds. It is deployed as a fixed weapon like the M Mortar , but is used for laser designation of targets for guided weaponry.

Even if other players cannot provide guided weaponry, the player still benefits from having a remote camera with which to spot enemies and range targets. At the bottom of the display are azimuth heading , range and elevation metrics. Once an enemy vehicle has been designated, friendly unit's damage against that target is increased. Because of its higher damage, this tactic is extremely effective, especially when enemies are repairing air units in flight.

Enemies who discover the SOFLAM can destroy it, even with light weapons, so secure terrain is recommended for the device to remain intact. Operators of the SOFLAM must note not to use it while in close proximity to the device, as splash damage from counter-attacks by enemy guided munition can kill the operator. It only helps the Javelin and the laser guided weaponry on vehicles guided tank shells, laser guided missiles.

They only really help when the team knows what each other are doing. GT: remShotz Speakeasy member. User Info: wilsonpalacios. Stinger just tracks heat, doesn't lock on in the same way. Anyway yeah, I wouldn't bother using one, or the weapons that lock on to it, without being able to co-ordinate with a squadmate using the other. Using it wont get you a lot of points, but it will get you a lot of wins. User Info: dejavu Gt: Death By Karma.

In manual mode, sometimes when I'm locking onto a vehicle, as soon as it's "locked-on" as in the outlines of the red square become solid a diamond appears over the vehicle and I get a Laser Designation bonus or whatever.

However, other times, when Im locking on to something, the lock on doesnt finish no diamond and bonus and the red solid-outlined square just stays with a continuous tone indicating a "completed" lock on, just like with javelines, stingers, etc.

My friends can stay hit the targets this way with Javelin locks, but its not like the diamond lock on where if I aim away the lock is still maintained. Is this a glitch or am I not doing something right?

Also, do I need to actually press the Spot button to spot stuff? I know its not nessecary for when designating vehicles but I'm not sure if pointing the SOFLAM at something actually spots it, or just designates it. Sorry for all the questions, and thanks very much in advance!
