How do you use rlv

Ways to compensate are being devised. But, that places some ownious on the individual user to learn how to make their new generation mesh body work with old generation RLV. Very few people are using Experiences in the diverse ways RLV is used. I think the lack of grid wide Experiences has delayed the adoption of Experiences. One task RLV is used for is the Stargates. With RLV you activate the gate and walk through, poof you teleport.

The gates are objects placed in various regions, one creator and many owners. With Experiences and no grid-wide key every gate would have to have its own key and Experience owner. No easy use So, RLV is a mix of pain, frustration, and fun surprises, increased ability, sexy stuff, and more. And unfortunately AmandaHoliday ,. KT Kingsley's given you a pretty good description.

It's a third party viewer that contains a lot of functions that give you the ability to let another person control a lot of the aspects of your Second Life experience. So, the first thing to do if you want to explore RLV is to download and install a third party viewer. Check that box, then quit and re-log. Next, find an RLV relay device. No need to spend a lot of money, try getting one of the free collars that use the Open Collar system.

Read the notes that come with your collar. Once you've done all that, find a friend you trust, hopefully someone who is familiar with using RLV, and experiment! I don't recommend simply going to a BDSM hangout and putting yourself in the hands of the first dom you meet.

Many of them don't know any more about RLV than you do, and even those who do may want to play games that you're not comfortable with. In ancient days when my SL family hung out, one would be tethered to another with generally hilarious results so she did not have to work to follow while she was tipsy.

This can have interesting consequences. Once, in a club, someone teleported in and was instantly tethered to me; where I went, they were forced to follow. It could happen to you or your friends, should you wish it or use RLV irresponsibly.

Along with the listening there is a lot of plumbing inside the viewer needed to allow heard commands to be carried out. Plus there is the problem of security. So, in an RLViewer there are a lot of changes and additions to the standard viewer code maintained by the Lab. With RLV we typically use a relay to catch incoming commands and relay them to the viewer. A relay is some type of attachment. It can be worn by the avatar, like a collar or jewelry, or attached as a HUD to the viewer screen.

The viewer listens several million chat channels and a modified RLV capable viewers act on a standardized set of RLV commands when it hears them.

We are ultimately in control of the viewer. Generally it is easy to take control back. But, it is possible to give away enough control so that it is technically complicated and very difficult to regain control. Different relays have different abilities. It allows one to set a number of levels of control. The Muffle button allows you to toggle speech muffling on or off - this comes into effect when the TALK preset is applied. With Muffle unticked, the Talk restriction preset stops the wearer chatting in local chat altogether, while with it ticked their speech will be muffled instead.

From this menu, you can also edit the preset buttons. The restrictions you have currently selected will be shown in the menu prompt text.

You will be asked to name this preset. Pick something memorable but short buttons only show about 12 letters. Your new preset will now show up as a button with the name you picked in the Restrictions menu, and clicking this button will toggle the set of restrictions you defined on and off, working just like the default preset buttons work. You can delete a custom preset or remove one of the default presets by clicking Del.

Preset and then selecting the preset button you want to remove. If you wish to restore the presets to the default set for example if you removed a preset and want it back , click the Restore button. This button in RLV brings up the relay menu. See Relay for more. To call the relay menu:. Folders is used to add, and detach individual items to and from existing worn outfits.

To add and detach items, the items or links to them must be in an RLV folder. The name must be exactly these four characters [ RLV] and it must be a top folder, not a sub folder of any other folder in the inventory. It allows users and scripted objects to force wear the clothing and attachments contained in those folders. Once you have your RLV folder set up, make folders in RLV for attachments you want to allow other avatars to force you to wear. These usually include items like cuffs and gags to force wear complete outfits, see.
