What is the difference between season and franchise

Forgot your username or password? I want to have shorten seasons so I can play multiple in a row. I want to build a team, make trades and develop prospects, but with a short enough season where I can actually play all of it.

I do not care about stadiums, facilities To me, this sounds like Franchise mode, but my buddy was telling me you can't shorten season length in Franchise Mode.
