How does recycled water fit in the water cycle

Find out more about our waste water services such as; septic tanks, sewage pollution and sewer flooding. Our interactive map gives information about supply issues and current investment projects across Scotland. Our employee volunteering programme can support you through education, conservation and community activities. Our customers are at the heart of our role and responsibilities to deliver the highest quality service across Scotland. The water on Earth continually gets recycled through the water cycle.

For more fun facts about water visit: www. The water cycle is very important to us at Scottish Water as it helps us provide clean, safe and high quality drinking water to over 2.

We pipe water from lochs and reservoirs to the water treatment works. Half of the process happens up in the sky with rain and clouds, but the other half happens on the surface, underground, and in treatment plants. Water is collected in lakes, rivers, streams, reservoirs, groundwater lakes and rivers aquifers , and the sea. From there, it either continues on in the water cycle, it is used directly by plants and animals, or it is treated for human use.

After plants and animals use water, it is released back into the atmosphere, the ground, or bodies of water. Water exists at the Earth's surface as liquid, solid, and vapor. It is forever changing from one of those three states to another. You can easily observe how water changes from liquid to solid by freezing and from solid to liquid by melting. Water also changes from liquid to vapor by evaporation and from vapor to liquid by condensation.

Condensation is how clouds and raindrops form. The water from lakes, oceans, rivers and other water bodies begins to evaporate; vapor from the water bodies condenses into clouds, later causing precipitation.

As it rains, hails, sleets or snows, the water is collected back on Earth to start the cycle again. Agriculture is the largest user of water.
